Bruce wanted to get in some stream fishing, so he and Molly headed up to the Gunflint Trail in May of 2009. The campground facilities weren't opened for the season at Hungry Jack, so he decided to be adventurous and try something new. After a bit of internet research, he decided to camp at Golden Eagle lodge and campground.
Unfortunately spring came late to northern Minnesota this year. The snow was still melting and the water in the streams was flowing much too hard for the trout to swim upstream. Being a trooper, Bruce still gave it a shot. Final score: Bruce zero, troutstreams one. The fish will live to spawn another day.
Bruce took a trip up the trail to check in on the progress being made at rebuilding Hungry Jack Lodge after the fire last spring. He also learned of the unfortunate events at Trout Lake Resort just a few weeks earlier. What started as a chimney fire caused the total destruction of the resort's main lodge and the resort owner's home. Our heart goes out to the entire Waver family. After over a decade of summers at Trout Lake, you are like family to us.
